What Happens at the End of a Rental Contract in Moldova?

Renting in Moldova: What Nobody Tells You. The end of a rental contract is usually simple when expectations are clear before the last day. The problems start when notice, keys, utilities or deposit are discussed too late.

Start with the notice period

Check your lease before you plan the move-out. Some contracts require advance notice, and the owner may need time to inspect the apartment, calculate final utilities and prepare it for the next tenant.

Final inspection and inventory

At check-out, the apartment is normally compared with the move-in condition and inventory. Furniture, appliances, keys, access cards, linens and kitchen items should be checked calmly and documented with photos when needed.

Utilities and final bills

For monthly rentals, final electricity, water, gas, internet or building service costs may be calculated after the last meter readings. Our guide to apartment utility costs in Chisinau explains the usual categories.

Deposit return

The security deposit is normally returned after rent, utilities and documented damages are settled. Normal wear should not be treated the same as broken or missing items, but both sides should rely on the contract and evidence.

Keys and handover

Return all keys, entrance chips, parking access and mailbox keys. If something is missing, agree in writing how it will be replaced or charged.

If you need a new apartment

Before the last week, compare available Chisinau apartments and send the next request early. For common tenant questions, the CVS tenant FAQ is also useful.
