Renting in Moldova: What Nobody Tells You. Many expats and long-stay tenants ask the same question before they choose an apartment: can the rented address be used for residence, bank, migration or other official procedures?
Short answer
Often yes, but it is not automatic. Renting an apartment gives you a place to live; using that address for an official file depends on the lease, the owner’s agreement and the documents requested by the authority or institution.
Why this matters
An address may be requested when you apply for temporary residence, open a bank account, register a car, deal with migration procedures or prove where you live in Moldova. Some institutions accept a signed lease; others may ask for additional confirmation from the owner.
What to confirm before you rent
- The owner agrees that the rented address may be used for official procedures.
- The lease shows the full apartment address, rental period, tenant name and owner details.
- The owner can provide the property document or sign additional confirmation if it is requested.
- The rental period is realistic for your procedure. Very short stays may not be useful for residence files.
